Which Sougayilang model, if any
Who Sougayilang is
Sougayilang is a fishing-tackle brand that sells mainly rods, reels, combos, lures, tackle bags, hooks and line. That comes from the brand's own home page, which says it "offers a wide range of fishing tackle for anglers of all levels" and lists those categories. I did not see a fly fishing category on that page. I also found no About page text, founding date, warranty policy or return policy on the maker's site, so I'm not going to invent any.
A third-party brand directory, the Lazada Brand Wiki, lists Yiwu, China as the headquarters and gives 2016 as the founding year, while its own history section says there is no widely documented founding date. I'd treat both as unconfirmed. We did not contact the brand or any seller, so everything below is what the Amazon listings say, in the same way you would see them.
That is a different situation from, say, a brand with a maker page for each model. Here the Amazon listing is the source for every figure. That does not make the numbers wrong, but it does mean you can't separate what the maker promises from what a seller's title says.
What Sougayilang sells on Amazon US now
At our last check (October 2026) we track 16 Sougayilang products on Amazon US, all of them fly fishing items:
- five standalone rods (the SG4905, the F905, the BZ4905 and two IM8 rods);
- seven combos (rod, reel and line in one box);
- four reels (a large-arbor 7/8, die-cast reels in 5/6 and 7/8, and a colorful CNC 7/8).
A product count for Amazon changes weekly, so read that as a snapshot. The table above marks each value by its source. Listing means the Amazon listing says so, and in this table that is nearly every row. A dash means not confirmed. Maker and claimed marks, which show up on other brand pages, are rare here because we did not find a maker page for these models.
The rods
Four rod families appear, and they look alike on paper. All are listed as four-piece, 9-foot graphite single-hand rods with cork handles.
SG4905. Listed with a medium-fast action and an aluminum reel seat, for trout, salmon and sunfish. The listing gives no line weight in our data, though the model number suggests a 5-weight. That's my reading of the name, not a fact, so check the listing.
F905. Listed as a 5/6-weight, with a machined aluminum reel seat with double lock rings. The listing's target list is the longest: small trout, sunfish, bass, carp, light steelhead and salmon. No action is given.
BZ4905. A 5/6-weight, listed medium-fast, for sunfish and small trout, with an aluminum reel seat.
IM8. A 5-weight and an 8-weight, both 9 feet, with a graphite blank and cork handle. The 5-weight lists small trout, bass, carp, light steelhead and salmon, and the 8-weight lists the same species.
Notice something about the target lists. A rod "for small trout and light steelhead and salmon" is two very different jobs. A line weight of 5 or 6 will cast to trout and sunfish and handle bass on a calm day, and it will be over-matched by a big steelhead. I read the target lists as the seller's hopes, not as a recommendation. If you want to understand what weight you need for a given fish, our fly rod weight chart and what weight fly rod for trout guides go through it.
For action, a medium-fast rod bends in the upper half of the blank and is forgiving at short range, while a fast rod bends mostly near the tip. See fly rod action for the longer explanation.
The combos
The seven combos are where the page gets more complicated, because the listings differ in what they say.
Two of them, a 5/6 and a 7/8 at 9 feet, list a medium-fast graphite rod, an aluminum reel seat, a CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum click-and-pawl reel, a 100 ft fly line, backing, leader and flies. Another 5/6 combo lists a machined reel seat with double lock rings, a soft case and a CNC-machined aluminum reel with an 85 mm spool and a disc drag, and a further 5/6 combo lists a hard tube and a large-arbor reel, with a drag type that the listing doesn't give.
Two combos list much less. The green "Saltwater/Freshwater" combo has a 106-inch, four-piece rod and a die-cast aluminum 5/6 reel, and no line weight or action in our data. "Saltwater/Freshwater" is the entire spec. (The Marketing Copy has a way of covering both oceans with one adjective.) The colorful 5/6 combo lists a fast action and a disc drag and little else. One further combo lists a moderate action, a hard tube, and line, backing and leader.
That variety tells you something: the same size is sold in several versions, and the listings do not always say which reel is in the box. Before you buy, read the box contents, and check what the listing says about the line. The listings say 100 ft of line, but I can't tell you its taper from the data. See types of fly line if you want to know what to look for.
Our fly rod combos section lists other brands, and the starter kit page applies a transparent rule to all of them. The cheap fly rods page is the one to read if budget is your first filter.
The reels
The four reels are a large-arbor 7/8 (listed machined aluminum, click-and-pawl, convertible retrieve), two die-cast aluminum reels in 5/6 and 7/8 (convertible retrieve, no drag type or arbor in the data) and a CNC-machined 7/8 listed with a disc drag.
Read this section as a sign of how to shop, more than a spec sheet. A click-and-pawl drag is the simplest: it adds a light click resistance that keeps the spool from overrunning and is fine for small fish. A disc drag has plates you can tighten, and it is better when a fish runs. A large arbor is a wider spool core that picks up line faster and winds it in looser coils. A convertible retrieve lets you switch the reel from right-hand to left-hand winding. Our parts of a fly reel guide shows each part, and the fly reel size guide explains how a reel's line-weight range should match your rod.
Weights, diameters and drag ratings are not in our data for any Sougayilang reel. So if balance matters to you, check the weight on the listing.
Reading a listing when there is no maker page
When the listing is your only source, read it in a fixed order. Start with the line weight, because a rod without one is a guess. Then look for the number of pieces and the length, which most of these listings give. Next comes the box contents: line, backing and leader are separate purchases if they are not named. Last, look at the photos for the reel seat and the case, since those often show what the title leaves out. If two listings for the same size disagree about the drag, trust neither until you have seen the box contents on the one you buy. Our fly rod setup guide shows how the pieces fit together once the box arrives.
How to buy a budget outfit sensibly
I'd approach any of these as I would any inexpensive first outfit.
- Pick the line weight by the water. A 5/6 for most trout and panfish; the 7/8 or 8-weight for bass and heavier flies.
- Read the box contents. If the listing doesn't say a line, backing and leader are included, assume you need to buy them.
- Check the drag. If you might hook strong fish, look for a disc drag.
- Save the order record. There is no warranty in our data, so your return rights are the Amazon ones.
- Don't take specs on trust. A rod length and weight on a listing can be right and still be a product you don't like to cast. That's the cost of buying a rod you can't hold first.
If a budget outfit works for you, you'll know within a few outings whether you want to step up. Our beginner gear guide shows what else you need besides a rod and reel.
What the data cannot tell you
For Sougayilang we have no maker page, no maker warranty, no rod weights in ounces, no reel weights, and no independent test. I have not read the Amazon reviews for these products, so I can't tell you what buyers complain about. If you want reviews, open the listing and read the three-star ones first, since they are usually the most specific. Treat this page as a snapshot of the listings from October 2026, and check the listing before you click through.

Questions about Sougayilang
Is Sougayilang a good fly rod brand?
I can't give you a verdict, because the only information about these rods is what the Amazon listings say, and nobody here has used them. What I can say is that the data is thin: every rod, reel and combo value in our table is a listing value, and the maker's site did not show a fly fishing category when I looked. If you buy one, treat it as a low-risk way to try fly fishing, check the return window, and don't expect precise specs.
What is the difference between a 5/6 combo and a 5-weight combo?
A 5/6 rod is rated for either a 5-weight or a 6-weight line, so the listing gives you a range instead of one number. A rod marked #5 or 5wt is a 5-weight rod. For a general trout outfit the two are close in practice, and a 5/6 reel will hold either line. Match the line you buy to the rod's range, and if the rod is marked 5/6 I'd start with the 5-weight line.
What comes in a Sougayilang fly rod combo?
The listings for five of the seven combos say a rod, a reel, a line, backing and a leader are included. Four also list flies. The 100 ft fly line, the CNC-machined aluminum reel and an aluminum reel seat appear in the 5/6 and 7/8 listings. The green saltwater/freshwater combo and the colorful 5/6 combo give much less, so open those listings and read the box contents before you buy.
What is the difference between the SG4905, F905, BZ4905 and IM8 rods?
They are all 9-foot, four-piece graphite rods in the listings, with cork handles. The SG4905, F905 and BZ4905 are listed for 5/6-weight lines and a medium-fast action (the F905 listing gives no action). The IM8 comes as a 5-weight and an 8-weight. The target fish differ from listing to listing: the BZ4905 lists sunfish and small trout, the F905 lists small trout, sunfish, bass, carp, light steelhead and salmon, and the IM8 lists small trout, bass, carp, light steelhead and salmon.
Do Sougayilang fly reels have a click-and-pawl or a disc drag?
It depends on the listing. The large-arbor 7/8 reel and three of the combos are listed as click-and-pawl, while two combos and the Colorful 7/8 reel are listed as disc drag. The die-cast reels list no drag type. Because the same size appears with different drags, check the listing for the exact version.
What is the Sougayilang warranty?
None of the 16 Sougayilang products in our data lists a warranty, and I found no warranty or return policy on the maker's home page. The brand's tackle range is mostly sold through Amazon, so the Amazon return window and the seller's policy are what you can rely on. Look at the listing before you buy.
Can I use a Sougayilang fly rod in saltwater?
I wouldn't assume so. One combo is titled "Saltwater/Freshwater", but its listing gives no line weight, no action and no drag details we could confirm, and other rod and combo listings say freshwater. If you plan to fish salt, rinse the gear and pick a reel with a sealed drag. Our saltwater fly rods page covers the options.
