Chene Waders

No Chene products are listed on Amazon US right now.

Chene waders are the breathable hunting waders from Chêne Gear, a waterfowl gear company whose first wader reached market for the 2021 season, and at our last check (October 2026) we track no Chêne listings on Amazon US. The brand sells the 2S wader, the 2S wading pant and a youth 2S wader through its own site, with a lifetime warranty on waders. The table above shows 15 alternatives of the same kind: bootfoot hunting, or fishing-and-hunting, chest waders from the nearest price tier, picked because their makers publish the most specs.

Who Chêne is

Chêne Gear started with a complaint. Field & Stream's founder interview says the founders were "just wet in our waders," and that repairs took so long that buyers often needed several pairs. Wildfowl magazine adds that co-founder Jeff Jones had spent 25 years developing waterfowl products and set out to build the best hunting wader he could. The wader was ready for market for the 2021 season after two years of field testing, according to that article, and Field & Stream gives 2021 as the founding year. The name is French for oak, which refers to flooded oak timber in the Southeast. It is rare for a wader name to come with a map.

The founders are named differently by the two magazines. Field & Stream lists Jeff Jones, Field Norris, Jeff Farmer and John Strange, and Wildfowl names Jones and Norris, so I'd treat Jones and Norris as the safest two. Neither article names a headquarters city, though Field & Stream mentions an early shop in Memphis and a store opened in Stuttgart, Arkansas in November 2024.

At our last check (October 2026) we track no Chêne listings on Amazon US. This page therefore does two jobs: it explains what Chêne sells, from the maker's own pages and the press, and it offers alternatives that Amazon lists. I'm not able to rate a Chêne wader, because I have seen the maker's pages and two magazine pieces and nothing more.

What Chêne sells

The maker's wader page lists four models:

The page describes breathable, waterproof construction with reinforced seams, accessible storage and adjustable straps. It does not state a layer count, a fabric name, a waterproof rating or the boot design. The press fills in more. Field & Stream says Chêne uses a four-layer waterproof nylon, that most breathable waders use polyester, that the waders are not sewn, and that sizing accounts for both body and foot. I treat those as the founders' statements. They tell you what Chêne says it is doing, but they are not test results.

The warranty

Chêne's warranty page gives waders a lifetime warranty. It covers defects in materials or workmanship and the remedy is repair or replacement. It does not cover wear and tear (punctures, tears, rips, snags, fabric pulls, pilling, stains and burns), damage from misuse or accidents, or theft or loss. Repairs are handled by an in-house wader repair department with a target turnaround of seven business days, and Chêne says it will try to help even when an issue is not covered. That makes it a more generous promise than most in the alternatives table, with the caveat that "lifetime" has limits written into the exclusions: a barbed-wire tear is wear in the warranty's terms, not a defect. Wildfowl adds that Chêne offers an annual end-of-season inspection.

Read the page yourself before you rely on it. The alternatives' warranties are shorter but plainer: Frogg Toggs one year, Banded two, Avery one, Drake three or four.

How the alternatives were picked

The 15 alternatives are waders of the same type, chest-high with boots attached, from brands Amazon US lists. Because Chêne makes hunting waders, I kept only waders that the maker or the listing puts in hunting or fishing-and-hunting use, took them from the closest price tier, and ranked them by the number of maker-confirmed specs. I leaned toward makers that state a warranty and a layer count, since those are what the Chêne pages are most reticent about. Amazon's own house brands are never included. All 15 are bootfoot, so the table shows no stockingfoot wader.

Each value in the table carries a mark. "Maker" means the manufacturer's own page states it. "Claimed" is a manufacturer claim with no named test, "listing" is what the Amazon listing says, and a dash means we could not confirm it and will not guess.

Reading the alternatives against Chêne

Warranty. If a lifetime warranty with in-house repair is what draws you to Chêne, the longest in the table is Drake's four years on the BMF1600 and three on most others. Banded's two-year warranty, per its wader warranty page, is for the original purchaser and needs proof of purchase.

Construction. The founders say, in Field & Stream, that the waders are not sewn. In the table, the Banded pages say SHEDS membrane and name layers (three or five) and the Drake pages name Kevlar on the BMF1600. I could not confirm a seam construction for most of them, so the seam column of a purchase is a question to ask the seller.

Fit. Chêne says it sizes for body and foot. Banded and Drake also size the body and the boot separately, with named body fits for Banded and Tall options for Drake. That is the closest match in the table.

Insulation. Chêne's page does not state insulation. In the table, check each model's boot insulation in grams, from 800 to 1600, and read the body line.

Who each alternative suits

Banded suits a hunter who wants the construction spelled out. Drake suits someone who wants the longest warranty. Frogg Toggs is a plain neoprene bootfoot. Avery is Banded's sister line. For a ranked set, see best duck hunting waders.

Questions the Chêne pages leave open

Because the maker's wader page is short, a buyer has to ask for the rest. The page does not give a layer count or a fabric name, though the press describes four-layer nylon. It does not say whether the boots are insulated or how thick. It does not describe the zipper. It does not name the seam method beyond "reinforced". None of that means the waders are lacking. It means that, from the pages I read, I cannot put a Chêne wader in a table next to a Banded or a Drake and compare line by line, and the dashes in a row would be honest.

If you plan to buy direct, ask for those four things before you pay: the boot insulation in grams, the fabric and layer count, how the zipper is protected, and the sizing chart for the model you want. Ask too how long a repair takes in practice during the season, since the seven-day target is a target.

Choosing between a hunting wader and a fishing wader

Hunting waders and fishing waders overlap more than the marketing suggests. A hunter stands, kneels and wades short distances through mud and brush, so toughness and warmth matter most. An angler walks and climbs, so weight, flexibility and ankle support matter. The Chêne 2S and every bootfoot in the table lean to the first job. If you also fish moving water, a breathable stockingfoot with a separate wading boot is the better tool; start with our stockingfoot waders page.

Sizing and fit

Bootfoot sizing locks the foot to the wader, so the body and boot sizes both matter. Measure your chest, waist and inseam over the layers you will wear. Choose a boot size for the thick socks you wear, and check which fit options (Stout, Tall, Short) the maker offers in your size. Use the maker's chart, because charts differ. Our wader size chart guide explains how to measure.

Wear a wading belt over any chest wader. A belt limits how much water floods in if you fall. Wade only where you can see the bottom, and plan your exit before you step in. Cold water can take your strength quickly.

Care and repair

Rinse the mud off, dry the wader inside and out in shade, and store it hanging. A pinhole leak is normal wear and not a warranty issue under most terms, so carry a patch kit; see wader repair kits and our guide to finding a leak in waders. If you hunt with a Chêne wader, the in-house repair department is the first call, per the warranty page.

Where Chene shows up

Questions about Chene

What are Chene waders?

Chêne Gear (often written Chene) is a waterfowl hunting gear company that began with waders. Chêne is French for oak, and the name nods to the flooded oak timber that Southeastern duck hunters work. Its site lists the 2S wader, which it describes as the core of the line and sells in Cypress, Brown and Mossy Oak versions, the 2S wading pant and a youth 2S wader, plus a wader care kit. Field & Stream names Jeff Jones, Field Norris, Jeff Farmer and John Strange as the founders, while Wildfowl magazine names Jones and Norris.

How are Chene waders different from other waders?

According to Field & Stream's founder interview, Chêne uses a four-layer waterproof nylon, where most breathable waders use polyester, builds the waders without sewing, sizes for both body and foot and not just foot size with a stout or regular cut, and handles repairs in-house. Those are statements from the founders and the press, not independent test results. The maker's wader page itself says only that the waders are breathable and waterproof, with reinforced seams, and does not state a layer count.

What is the Chene waders warranty?

Chêne's warranty page says waders carry a lifetime warranty against defects in materials or workmanship, and that Chêne will repair or replace the item. It does not cover wear and tear such as punctures, tears, rips, snags, fabric pulls, pilling, stains and burns, damage from misuse or accidents, or theft or loss. Repairs go through an in-house department with a target of seven business days, and the page says Chêne will try to help repair uncovered damage where it can. Field & Stream reported a goal of seven to ten days.

Are Chene waders sold on Amazon?

We track no Chêne listings on Amazon US at our last check, and I won't guess why. The brand sells through its own website and, per Field & Stream, opened a store in Stuttgart, Arkansas in November 2024. Be careful with third-party listings that use the Chêne name, and buy from the maker or a seller you can verify.

Does Chene make youth waders?

Yes. The maker's site lists a Youth 2S Wader, described as the same build in smaller sizes, in Cypress, Brown and Mossy Oak Bottomland. A child in waders is a safety question as much as a fit one: keep an adult beside them and stay in shallow water.

How do I size Chene waders?

Use Chêne's own size chart on its site. Field & Stream says the company sizes waders for both body size and foot size, which means you pick two things, not one. I haven't copied a chart, because I couldn't confirm it from the pages I read. Measure your chest, waist and inseam over the layers you will wear, and use the chart for the model you buy.

What are good alternatives to Chene waders?

On Amazon US, the alternatives with the longest stated warranties in our table are the Drake waders (three or four years) and the Banded Black Label Elite and Phantom X (two years). They are bootfoot chest waders aimed at hunting, as the Chêne is. For a stockingfoot wader for walking, see our stockingfoot waders page.
