Drake Waders (Drake Waterfowl)

Drake waders are duck hunting chest waders from Drake Waterfowl, a Mississippi company that launched in 2002, and on Amazon US they come mostly as bootfoot breathable waders in the Guardian Elite and Hardline lines, with a neoprene Eqwader and one hip boot. At our last check (October 2026) we track 11 Drake products there: 10 waders and hip boots and a merino wool wader sock. Drake lists a 3-year Strap to Sole replacement warranty on most of them and 4 years on the Kevlar BMF1600.

Which Drake Waterfowl model, if any

Drake Waterfowl Insulated Guardian Elite HND Front Zip Wader

Good day on the water for

a cold morning in a flooded field, since the front-zip chest wader lists full insulation and 1600 g boots, so you can open the chest on the walk in.

Leave it on the shelf if

you walk a long way or hunt on mild days, where a fully insulated body gets hot.

Sizing note

Drake lists upper sizes S to 3XL plus Tall and boot sizes 8 to 14; start with the boot, then check the maker's chart against your chest and inseam.

See it on Amazon

Drake Waterfowl BMF1600 Kevlar Wader

Good day on the water for

rough country with a lot of kneeling, since this is a Kevlar front-zip chest wader that Drake lists with reinforced knees and a 4-year warranty, the longest in the range.

Leave it on the shelf if

you want a plain, light wader, because the extra layers and 1600 g boots add bulk.

Sizing note

the listing runs M to 3XL with a Tall cut and boot sizes 8 to 14; the maker's chart is the one to use.

See it on Amazon

Drake Waterfowl Buckshot Eqwader 1600 Neoprene Wader 3.0

Good day on the water for

long, cold stands in still water in a 3.5 mm neoprene bootfoot wader with 1600 g boots and reinforced knees.

Leave it on the shelf if

you wade on the move or hunt in mild weather, where neoprene runs hot and heavy.

Sizing note

neoprene is cut differently from breathable fabric, and the maker lists boot sizes 8 to 14, so don't carry a size over from another wader without checking.

See it on Amazon

Drake Waterfowl Hardline Insulated Breathable Wader

Good day on the water for

an insulated breathable chest wader with a sewn-in full-body liner, three layers and 800 g boots.

Leave it on the shelf if

you hunt in deep cold, where the lighter 800 g boots will feel thin next to the 1600 g models.

Sizing note

Drake lists S to 3XL and boots 8 to 14; the liner adds bulk, so check the chart for your layers.

See it on Amazon

Drake Waterfowl Insulated Breathable Chest Wader with Sewn-in Liner

Good day on the water for

a hunter who wants body-mapped insulation, since Drake lists a sewn-in liner with 125 g in the front and 200 g in the back and 1200 g boots.

Leave it on the shelf if

you want a wader you can wear on a warm day, because the liner is sewn in and cannot be taken out.

Sizing note

Drake's page for this pair is where to check which cuts exist; compare its chart with your build.

See it on Amazon

Drake Waterfowl EST Waterfowlers Hip Boot

Good day on the water for

wet edges and shallow marsh in a hip boot that Drake lists as three-layer breathable with a lug rubber sole.

Leave it on the shelf if

you wade past your thighs, where water will come over the top.

Sizing note

Drake lists sizes 7 to 14; check the chart and wear the socks you hunt in.

Who Drake Waterfowl is

Drake Waterfowl says it has been in technical hunting and fishing apparel since 2002. A 2014 Wildfowl magazine profile names Tate Wood as the founder and Bobby Windham Jr. as co-founder, childhood friends from Greenwood, Mississippi, who began planning in 2001 and launched in 2002 in the hunting-goods business. The profile describes the early products as duck hunting clothing, such as jackets with hinged shell pockets. Drake's About page gives the headquarters as Olive Branch, Mississippi, and says Icon Outdoors LLC is the parent of the Drake family of brands. That family includes Drake Waterfowl Systems, Non-Typical by Drake, Ol' Tom, Drake Performance Fishing, Drake Clothing Company and McAlister. The page names Gore-Tex, PrimaLoft and Thinsulate among the technologies used across the range.

What Drake sells on Amazon US now

At our last check (October 2026) we track 11 Drake products on Amazon US: ten waders and hip boots and a merino wool wader sock. The table above shows them all. There are no Drake fly rods, reels, lines or packs in our data, and we found no Drake stockingfoot waders.

The listings sort into three groups, and the model names are the part that confuses people.

Guardian Elite waders. Four models. Three are HND front-zip pairs: insulated, hybrid insulated (Drake describes insulated legs and a non-insulated upper) and uninsulated. The fourth is the Vanguard, a three-layer breathable wader with 1600 g boots and no front zip in our data, listed for fishing and hunting. All are bootfoot chest waders.

Hardline. An insulated and an uninsulated pair. Both list three layers and 800 g boots, and the insulated one has a sewn-in full-body liner. These are the lighter-boot, lower-bulk end of Drake's range.

Specialist models. The BMF1600 Kevlar wader with Primaloft has a front zip, reinforced knees and the 4-year warranty, the longest in the range. The Buckshot Eqwader 1600 Neoprene 3.0 is the neoprene one: 3.5 mm, 1600 g boots, reinforced knees. The EST Waterfowlers Hip Boot is a three-layer breathable hip wader with a lug rubber sole. The Insulated Breathable Chest Wader with Sewn-in Liner lists a three-layer breathable body and body-mapped insulation, 125 g in front and 200 g at the back, with 1200 g boots.

What the model names mean

Drake names its waders by body construction first and insulation second. I'd read them this way, based on the maker pages in the table.

If your hunts are long and cold, look at the "Insulation" column in the table before the model name. If you walk a lot, start with the uninsulated body and add layers underneath. See what to wear under waders.

Breathable or neoprene

The shorthand: breathable for active hunts and mixed weather, neoprene for sitting still in cold water. A breathable wader lets vapor from your body pass through the fabric, so you stay drier on a long walk to the blind. Neoprene is a closed-cell foam that insulates by itself, which is why Drake sells the Buckshot Eqwader as a cold-weather wader, but it doesn't breathe, it is heavier, and it makes walking tiring. Read the breathable versus neoprene guide for the longer comparison, then browse breathable waders or neoprene waders.

Who each Drake wader suits

Cold, still stands. The fully insulated Guardian Elite front-zip, the neoprene Eqwader and the BMF1600 with its Primaloft. They list 1600 g boots, the warmest in the range.

Mixed days. The Hardline pair and the uninsulated Guardian Elite models. You can layer a fleece under them in the cold and open the zip on a warm walk (on the zip models).

Shallow work. The EST hip boot is for wet edges, not for wading past the thigh.

Fishing. Two listings describe fishing and hunting use, the Guardian Elite Vanguard and the uninsulated Guardian Elite front zip. They are bootfoot, so they suit still water and slow current more than a river you walk. For that, a stockingfoot wader and a separate boot is the usual choice, which is what the bootfoot vs stockingfoot guide explains.

Sizing and fit

Drake's size chart page lists upper sizes S to 3XL on the Guardian Elite and Hardline models, a Tall cut (M to 3XL) on the front-zip Guardian Elite and Vanguard pairs, and boot sizes 8 to 14. The hip boot runs 7 to 14. The BMF1600 lists M to 3XL plus Tall. These come from the maker's size chart and product pages. I have not read enough buyer feedback on Drake fit to summarise it, so use the chart, not guesswork.

Three habits help. Size the boot first and the body second. Measure chest, waist and inseam over the layers you will actually wear, because a wader that is tight over a thin base layer will be tighter over fleece. And if the pair has a front zip, check that you can sit and bend with the zip closed. (Hunters tend to remember the first sit-down in a pair that is a size too small.) Our Drake wader size chart guide goes through the measuring, and the general wader size chart guide covers other makers.

Drake wader warranty

Drake's wader warranty page lists a 3-year Strap to Sole replacement for most models in our data, including the Guardian Elite and Vanguard models, the Hardline, the sewn-in-liner wader, the Buckshot Eqwader and the EST hip boot, and a 4-year Strap to Sole replacement for the BMF1600 Kevlar wader with Primaloft. It covers defects in materials or workmanship and excludes normal wear, abuse, accidents, alteration, misuse and improper care. Drake's remedy is replacement. If your model has gone out of production, it offers replacement options, and an upgrade may cost extra.

If you bought from Drake, you start a claim in its returns and warranty portal using your order number. If you bought from an authorized dealer, you open a ticket in its customer service system using the name on your warranty registration. Either way you pay to send the wader in, Drake pays for the replacement to come back, and you get a return authorization number for the box. Drake's page doesn't define who is covered beyond the purchase channel, so keep your receipt where you will find it. (Not in the Hook Drawer, which is where receipts go to join the instruction manuals for gear that no longer exists.) The Drake wader warranty guide walks through a claim.

Choosing between the Drake models

If the table feels like a lot of near-identical rows, work through it in this order.

  1. Decide how cold your hunts get. Cold, still stands point to the 1600 g boot models and a body with insulation. Mild or active hunts point to an uninsulated body or the Hardline.
  2. Decide whether you want a zip. Only the HND models and the BMF1600 list one in our data. If you don't care about opening the chest, the Vanguard and Hardline avoid the extra part.
  3. Check the warranty column. Three years is standard in the range, four on the BMF1600. That is a long time for a wader, but it is a replacement policy for defects, not a promise of a leak-free decade.
  4. Check the sizes. If you are tall, look for the models that list a Tall cut. If you are between sizes, ask Drake before ordering.
  5. Use the filters. The table can be filtered by material type and insulation, and sorted by any column.

One more row deserves a mention: the Drake merino wool wader sock. The Amazon listing describes a wool blend and heavyweight build, and we have no maker page for it. A thick sock changes how a wader fits, so measure your boot with the sock on. Our wader socks section lists other options.

Care in brief

Rinse mud and salt off after each hunt, hang the wader upside down to dry away from sunlight and heat, and store it loose. That is general advice for all waders, and Drake's warranty excludes damage from improper care, so it is worth following. See how to clean waders and how to store waders. If a pair leaks, how to find a leak and wader repair cover it.

Wear a belt, and watch the water

Waders are not flotation gear. If you fall in deep or moving water, air in the legs makes it hard to stay upright, and cold water makes things worse. Wear a snug wading belt over a bootfoot wader, move slowly, and don't wade water you can't see through. A life jacket is the correct choice on a boat or in a marsh with a soft bottom.

Drake compared with other hunting wader brands

For other waterfowl brands, see Banded, Frogg Toggs and Avery. The duck hunting waders page lists them side by side, and best duck hunting waders shows the pairs that meet a fixed rule.

Questions about Drake Waterfowl

What is the Drake wader warranty?

Drake's wader warranty page lists a 3-year Strap to Sole replacement for most of its breathable models, the Buckshot Eqwader 1600 Neoprene 3.0 and the EST hip boot, and 4 years for the BMF1600 Kevlar wader with Primaloft. It covers defects in materials or workmanship, not normal wear or damage from abuse, accidents, modification or improper care. If you bought from Drake you file through its returns and warranty portal, and if you bought from an authorized dealer you open a ticket using your warranty registration. You pay to ship the waders in. Our Drake warranty guide has the process.

Are Drake waders breathable or neoprene?

Both. In our data the Guardian Elite, Hardline and sewn-in-liner models are breathable, and the Buckshot Eqwader 1600 Neoprene 3.0 is a 3.5 mm neoprene wader. Breathable waders let moisture escape and suit active hunters. Neoprene is warmer and stiffer, and it suits long, still, cold stands.

Do Drake waders come in sizes for bigger or taller hunters?

Drake's size chart page covers upper sizes S to 3XL for the Guardian Elite and Hardline models, with a Tall cut that runs M to 3XL on the front-zip Guardian Elite and Vanguard models. Boot sizes run 8 to 14, and the EST hip boot runs 7 to 14. The BMF1600 Kevlar lists M to 3XL plus Tall. Use Drake's chart and measure over the layers you will wear.

What does "uninsulated" mean on a Drake wader that lists boot insulation?

On several Drake models, such as the Guardian Elite Vanguard, the name says uninsulated while the data lists 1600 g of boot insulation. The most likely reading is that the body of the wader has no insulation and the boots do. Drake's page for each pair is the place to check, because the name alone doesn't say.

Can I use Drake waders for fishing?

Two of the Amazon listings are described as for fishing and hunting, the Guardian Elite Vanguard and the uninsulated Guardian Elite front zip. They are bootfoot waders, which suit still water, marsh and slow current. For a river with a lot of walking, a stockingfoot wader with a separate boot is the usual choice. See our stockingfoot guide.

What is a Drake Eqwader?

Eqwader appears in several Drake model names. In our data the Buckshot Eqwader 1600 Neoprene 3.0 is a 3.5 mm neoprene bootfoot wader with 1600 g boot insulation and reinforced knees, covered by the 3-year warranty. We do not track the LST Eqwader 2.0 neoprene wader, and I have no maker page for it, so I can't describe it.

Who owns Drake Waterfowl and where is it based?

Drake's About page says the company is headquartered in Olive Branch, Mississippi, and that Icon Outdoors LLC is the parent of the Drake family of brands. A 2014 Wildfowl magazine profile names Tate Wood as founder and Bobby Windham Jr. as co-founder, and says the company launched in 2002.
