How alternatives are pickedProducts of the same type from other brands, closest first: same price tier as Cabela's's own listings at our last check, then the most maker-published specs. No popularity, no paid placement.
Which Cabela's model, if any
Cabela's waders and what we track
Cabela's began in December 1961 in Chappell, Nebraska, when Dick Cabela started selling fishing flies by mail. Its headquarters later sat in Sidney, Nebraska, and the company was acquired by Bass Pro Shops in 2017. Cabela's website lists RedHead wader models. A search for "Cabela's waders" is a search for a retailer's own range as much as for a brand.
At our last check (October 2026) we track no Cabela's-branded waders on Amazon US, so the table above is a list of alternatives. This page does not review a Cabela's wader, because I have no maker spec sheet for one in our data. I won't guess at specs or invent a reason for the gap. What I can do is explain what to look at when you replace a Cabela's wader, and how I chose the alternatives. If you know your Cabela's model, check the product page there for layers, insulation and warranty, and use the questions below on whatever you find.
Some names outlast the product lines they were printed on, which is more than most waders manage.
How the alternatives were picked
The 15 alternatives are chest-high waders from brands that Amazon US lists, picked in three steps. First, the same type, which here is waders. Second, because Cabela's wader range is built around hunting, only waders that the maker or the listing puts in hunting or fishing-and-hunting use, taken from the closest price tier. Third, the largest number of maker-confirmed specs, because a wader with a layer count, a boot insulation rating and a warranty period lets you compare. Amazon's own house brands are never included.
The result is all bootfoot: insulated and uninsulated breathable waders and neoprene waders from Banded, Drake, Frogg Toggs and Avery, because those makers publish the most numbers. There is no stockingfoot wader in this table, since the hunting filter leaves them out. If you want stockingfoot waders for walking rivers, use the stockingfoot waders page, which has more of them.
How to read the table
Each value in the table carries a mark. "Maker" means the manufacturer's own page states it. "Claimed" is a manufacturer claim with no named test, such as a layer count. "Listing" is what the Amazon listing says, and a dash means we could not confirm it and will not guess. Most of the 15 alternatives have maker pages, so most columns show "maker".
Foot type is the first filter. A bootfoot has the boot built in, which is simple and warm and has little ankle support. A stockingfoot ends in a neoprene sock, and you wear a separate wading boot over it. See bootfoot vs stockingfoot waders if you are undecided.
Matching the kind of Cabela's wader you had
Neoprene chest waders. Cabela's keywords often include neoprene and "5mm stockingfoot". Neoprene is a closed-cell foam rubber, and thickness in millimeters is the warmth rating: more millimeters is warmer and heavier. In the table, the Frogg Toggs Amphib is a 3.5 mm neoprene bootfoot with 600-gram boots, and a second Amphib with a cleated sole lists 200-gram boots. I have no 5 mm stockingfoot neoprene in the table, so for that read our neoprene waders page.
Breathable waders. Breathable fabric lets vapor out while keeping water out, which suits walking and warm to cool days. The Drake and Banded waders in the table list layers (three or five) and, for Banded, a named membrane. Layer counts are manufacturer claims. See breathable waders for more.
Hip waders and wading pants. Hip waders end at the upper thigh and suit shallow water, and wading pants stop at the waist. They are separate pages on this site, hip waders and wading pants. Neither belongs in a chest-wader table.
Women's and youth waders. Women's cuts exist from several brands; see women's waders. For young anglers, kids waders explains what to look for. A child in waders is a supervision matter first, so pick a wader that fits and keep an adult beside them.
Fly fishing waders. If your search was "Cabela's fly fishing waders", this table will not help much: all 15 are bootfoot waders sold for hunting, or for fishing and hunting, and none is a stockingfoot fly fishing wader. The best fly fishing waders page uses a fixed selection rule and is the better start.
Wading boots. If you move to stockingfoot waders you will need boots; our wading boots section lists them.
What grams and millimeters mean
Two numbers decide how warm a hunting-style wader is. The first is body insulation. For neoprene it is thickness in millimeters, and for breathable waders it is a named insulation layer, sometimes with a comfort range in degrees. The second is boot insulation, measured in grams of insulating material. The Drake Hardline lists 800 grams, and the Banded and Avery waders in the table list 1600. More grams means a warmer boot and also a stiffer, heavier one. If your feet get cold first, the boot rating is the number to chase. If you overheat when you walk, a smaller number is a kindness.
Insulation also has a flip side. A wader that is warm enough for 35-degree water is a sauna at 70 degrees, which is why several makers in the table sell the same wader with and without insulation. When you compare, pick the cut that matches the coldest day you will actually stand in water, then add layers underneath for the shoulder season.
Choosing by water and by walking
Where you stand matters more than the label. If you stand in one place, in a blind, from a boat or at the end of a dock, a bootfoot is simple, warm and quick to put on. If you walk a bank, climb in and out of a stream, or cross rock and gravel, a stockingfoot with a separate wading boot gives you ankle support and a sole you can replace. Neoprene suits cold, still water. Breathable fabric suits movement.
A few quick rules of thumb, which are my opinions, not tested results:
- Hunting from a blind in winter: an insulated bootfoot, with the boot rating that matches your coldest day.
- Fly fishing a river: a breathable stockingfoot and a separate boot.
- Early-season or warm-weather work: an uninsulated wader, and layers.
- Mixed use: choose the use you do most often, and accept a compromise on the other.
Care and repair
A wader lasts longer if you rinse it after muddy trips, let it dry inside and out, and store it hanging in a cool place away from sunlight. Folded for months in a damp bag is how seams fail early. If you find a pinhole leak, a patch kit from our wader repair kits page is the usual fix, and our leak-finding guide explains how to locate it. Check your wader before the season, not on the first cold morning.
The alternatives in the table
Banded. The Black Label Elite and Phantom X waders list SHEDS membranes, HARS insulation, 1600-gram boots and a two-year warranty. See the Banded page.
Drake. The Guardian Elite and Hardline waders are breathable bootfoots with three-year Drake wader warranties, and the BMF1600 Kevlar lists four. Some are insulated, some are not. Drake is covered on its own page.
Frogg Toggs. Two neoprene Amphib bootfoots, both with a one-year warranty.
Avery. The Originals breathable insulated wader lists a one-year warranty.
Sizing and fit
Sizing a wader you cannot try on is the main risk of buying online. Measure your chest, waist and inseam over the layers you will wear, and for a bootfoot choose the boot size you wear with thick socks. Waders sized too small stress the seams at the knees and crotch, and waders sized too large bunch and trap water. Every maker in the table publishes its own chart, and they differ, so use the one for the model you buy. Our wader size chart guide explains how to measure.
If a listing offers Stout, Tall, Short or Husky versions, those change the body cut and not just the length, so read what each means on the maker's chart before you pick. A cut that suits your chest but not your torso length will bind when you bend, and that is where the knees and seat seams take the strain. Always wear a wading belt over a chest wader. A belt limits how much water can flood in if you fall, and a flooded wader is hard to climb out of.
Warranty
Warranty length varies a lot in the table. Frogg Toggs lists one year. Banded lists two years on Phantom X and Black Label Elite. Drake lists three years on most models and four on the BMF1600. Avery lists one. Read the maker's terms for the exclusions, because most warranties cover defects in materials and workmanship but not damage from use.
Rods and reels
Cabela's keywords also include fly rods, reels and combos. We do not track Cabela's rods or reels on Amazon US, so I'll point you to the sections we do have: fly rods, fly reels and fly rod combos. Another name worth knowing in this space is RedHead, which appears on Cabela's website.

Questions about Cabela's
Does Amazon sell Cabela's waders?
We track no Cabela's-branded waders on Amazon US at our last check (October 2026), and I won't guess why. Cabela's lists waders on its own website, including RedHead models, so that is the place to check Cabela's own range and stock. The table on this page shows alternatives that Amazon US does list.
Who owns Cabela's?
Bass Pro Shops. The Federal Trade Commission approved the acquisition on July 5, 2017, and Wikipedia reports it closed on September 25, 2017. Cabela's has been a Bass Pro Shops subsidiary since then, and many stores were later rebranded as Bass Pro Shops.
Are Cabela's neoprene waders any good?
I have no maker spec sheet for a current Cabela's neoprene wader in our data, so I can't rate one. In general, neoprene is a warm, flexible rubber foam that suits cold, still water and punishes long walks. Our neoprene waders page explains how thickness, in millimeters, and boot insulation, in grams, change the picture. The Frogg Toggs Amphib in the table is a neoprene bootfoot with a 3.5 mm body and a one-year warranty per the maker.
What are good alternatives to Cabela's breathable waders?
Breathable chest waders in our table include the Drake Guardian Elite and Hardline models, the Banded Phantom X and Black Label Elite, and the Avery Originals, which are bootfoot and aimed at hunting. All of them are bootfoot. For a stockingfoot cut with separate boots, our breathable waders page lists more.
Do Cabela's hip waders or wading pants have an Amazon equivalent?
Hip waders and wading pants are separate pages on this site, because they suit different jobs. A hip wader covers you to the upper thigh and suits shallow water, while wading pants stop at the waist. See our hip waders and wading pants pages for what we track.
How do I size waders if I can't try them on?
Use the maker's size chart, not a shoe size alone. Measure your chest, waist and inseam over the layers you will wear, and for a bootfoot choose the boot size you wear with thick socks. Banded, Drake and Frogg Toggs each publish a chart for their waders. If you are between sizes, ask the maker, or read our wader size chart guide.
Does Cabela's sell fly rods and reels too?
Cabela's has sold fishing gear since it began in 1961, when its founder started selling fishing flies by mail. We do not track Cabela's rods, reels or combos on Amazon US, so this page does not review any. For rods and reels, the fly rods, fly reels and combo sections have what we do cover.
